Build Your Own Aggregator with Drupal 6

I think I am my testing aggregator is working well, I don’t have a group system installed on it yet as I am using Drupal 6 with the lake of plugins for this new great version, but I will not changed at the mean time, it’s going very well, but one thing that I don’t understand, which is the aggregator plugin behavior, some time it arrange the articles in different ways, I don’t know what’s the idea behind this! Why the articles doesn’t keep the arrange?!

The main benefit from using Drupal is that I was like shocked some times at the beginning of using it, and this happen to me several times to close everything and forget about it, Joomla was the home for me, I find it more easy to handle, but wished to learn more about how Drupal work, it’s not good to keep using one CMS, and I said to my self I will not be like this for ever, so start thinking to go a head and try again.

Reading lots is all what I do now, but I am having a great headaches because I have to dig hard to find good articles talking about exactly what I need, and I really can not find enough for reading as usual happened because I have lots of other things to do.

I will give out some steps that I made, it may help you build your own:

- Install Drupal 6 on your host.

- Find needed plugins.

- Use some clean template for testing.

- Set the home page to node aggregator.

- Create menu and add about, community forum and contact pages.

- Show the nodes on the right and left side bars.

- Add ads from Google.

- Invite your blog friends to be added.

I was wondering why I didn’t make it short and easy and just add some of those rss feeds that spreads and exposed everywhere on the internet, but it might be a better way of testing to get people who want to learn something about this project since the beginning of it, and watch the way it was build.

I thank my friends who joined the aggregator until now, this is a list of them here:

Tales from The Fat Man’s Kampung

Ruminations of a Small Town Mountain Boy

Ramblings Of a Writer

Puzzle Piece

  1. Just be careful, Drupal has a tendency of taking too much CPU cycles and a number of aggregators had to shutdown because their hosting services asked for a lot more $$$ because of that!

Good luck :) And welcome to the club

Ah .. ok, I understand!! and thank you so much for the information!
lets see about what godaddy will say, I don’t think they will ask me to shout down it specially that I am not using the economic hosting.

Anyways it’s for testing, and basically to help me inter the Drupal world!

Maybe I will go for the community server in phase 2 of my project :)
    Thanks again for the advice!!
