Here’s a Quick Way to Avoid Getting Sick

Guest post, by Jeanine Mathis.

It’s that time of year when we all fear catching a cold or flu.  I don’t know about you, but I hate being sick.  Thankfully, there are a few things that the average person can do to prevent sickness.   I would like to note four ways that you can protect yourself from getting sick.

1.  Exercise to Build up Your Immune System
Exercise may be the last thing you think of to keep from getting sick, but research shows that exercising on a daily basis will build up your immune system.  Professor Nieman of Appalachian State University in North Carolina studied two groups of women.  One group walked five days a week for 45 minutes, while the other group remained sedentary and did no exercise.  The group of women that exercised got sick half as much as the group that did not exercise.  This is not to say that you should exercise when you get sick; by then it is too late.  Exercise while you are healthy and you will stay healthy.

2.  Use Spices to Prevent Food Poisoning
If you have ever had food poisoning you know that it is one of the most unpleasant things to go through.  Food poisoning results from eating food that has not been cooked properly or has not been refrigerated, allowing for bacteria to grow.  Food poisoning results in vomiting and stomach cramps.  Dr. John La Puma writes in his book “Chef MD’s Big Book of Culinary Medicine”, that researchers found that mixing 2-5 teaspoons of clove, garlic, cinnamon, oregano, or sage reduced bacteria by 99%.  All the more reason to use more spices on our food, especially if those spices keep us from getting sick.

3.  Drink Green Tea to Avoid the Flu
A Japan study compared two groups of elderly in a nursing home.  It is a known fact that older adults are more susceptible to getting the flu.  One group of older adults gargled with green tea extract 3 times a day while the other group gargled 3 times a day without the green tea extract.  Those who gargled with green tea extract were sick 87% less than the group that did not gargle with green tea.  Needless to say, green tea has powerful properties that will help keep you from getting sick.  It may partially be due to catechin, the bitter ingredients in green tea that kill bacteria.  Green tea is so strong that it even kills the plaque in your mouth that causes dental cavities!

4.  Use Probiotics to Stay Clear of Colds and Respiratory Infections
What are probiotics?  Probiotics are supplements containing good bacteria.  Good bacteria promote health by suppressing the growth of harmful bacteria.  To enjoy the benefits of probiotics, eat yogurt, kefir, or take supplements of probiotics.  WebMD reports that research was done in Sweden which compared workers who took the probiotic bacteria, Lactobacillus reuteri every day with workers who didn’t take the probiotic.  Those who took the probiotic were sick less often than those who didn’t use the probiotic.

So there you have it.  Build up your immune system with exercise, spice up your food with clove, garlic, cinnamon, oregano, or sage, drink green tea, and use probiotics.  If you follow these four tips you will be healthier and get sick less often.

  1. Great information. I’d like to also add that the fight against disease has become a well-formulated, strategic business. Our so-called “healthcare” (which is really “sick care”) is dependent upon sickness and disease.

Quite frankly, we the people need to stop looking outside of ourselves and start taking responsibility for prevention in the form of lifestyle.

The hard truth is that many are digging their own graves with their knives and forks. We are just not eating right, meaning that if Nature made it, eat it. If man made it, eat it in moderation or leave it alone.

And as far as what to do, once you are sick, again if nature made it-use it, if man made it, use it in moderation or leave it alone. There are wonderful things in nature we can use- herbs, as well as zeolite, colloidal silver, pau d’arco, marine phtyoplankton to name a few.

My family has used these natural things for about 13 yrs. now & have not needed nor been on antibiotics. And with the growth of super bugs that are resistant to antibiotics, I’m glad.

I also had the privilege of my brother in law finally listening to us after he got stage 4 non-hodgkins lymphoma. Now it’s gone & the only thing he did different was take responisibility for his health-going natural in his diet and supplementation.

So my advice is -go natural-diet & supplementation.

This is a good list of tips. I personally take a probiotic supplement, and it does wonders for me and my overall digestion.

I’ll also boost my immune system with vitamin c and take oregano oil. All of this helps to keep my body able to fight off sickness.

I think the most important thing, is to stay well hydrated. Especially if you’re already sick.
