Is Your WordPress Blog too slow?
If you came cross this post is because you are suffering from the slow motion of your blog, I got some feed backs from my friends and blog readers complaining that the blog is getting too slow, and even some times they can not open a page on the blog.
Recently I have upgraded My Life Thinking to WordPress version 2.6.3 , I don’t know exactly why it’s going slower, and also I have this message from the server says that “MySQL server has gone away on line: 1351” on a line of the code when I try to open some single pages to view a post. At the beginning I was thinking the template has something wrong because I often play with it, so maybe I missed with something, but after changing the template I found that I still have the same problem, the blog is too slow!
I have googled lots, but nothing that I found was helping me enough to solve the problem, some of the pages I found talking about the hosting service that may cause this kind of problems, but I am not sure about that.
After spending more time I found out something was not clear to me at the beginning, after upgrading my old WordPress version, I notice that Popularity Contest plugin is not compatible with WordPress 2.6.3 , it’s only compatible up to 2.3.1 , by logic this may give some problems, even if still working!
Anyways.. I thing it’s better to remove it, maybe it is the reason of the slow motion of my blog.
After removing the Popularity Contest plugin I notice that the blog is opening faster, and I don’t get this annoying message from the server.
Note it’s not necessary that will give you the same problem, on this post I just try to explain what happened with me, but you will not lose anything if you try it if you upgraded to WordPress 2.6.3 and you still using same plugins you used to before upgrading process, so it’s good always to check all of your plugins.
I hope this could help anyone out there, so plz if you experienced a salvation for this problem and you have some ideas to speed up WordPress I will appreciate you drop a comment.

Yeah, I’d noticed that PopContest was slowing down my sites even before if became incompatible.
Unfortunately WordPress (and firefox) by themselves are fast but get slowed down easily and quickly through plugins and they have no internal way to show you what is causing the problem.
Personally I’ve struggled a lot with these issues as I’m on shared hosting and I still am much slower than I’d like
Anyway, perhaps this post of mine might be of use to you as well.

I’ve experiencing a similar issue but with version 2.7.1 I logged onto my phpmyadmin and optimized my tables. That seemed to improve the speed slightly.

I do have a blog with more than 10 thousand of record. Recently i face this issue. Its really slow when i tried to posting new post or edit existing post. Have you ever face this kind of issue?
@Chandra, It could be because of one of your plugins, make sure that you updated your plugin to the latest versions, and check this discussion on WordPress forum:

maybe it will help, r search about the reason on google and you will find lots of topics talking about same problem!
@Hisham, Thanks Hisham, i tried to upgrade my wp to the latest 2.7.1 and also upgrade all the plugins that i had. Now it seem fixed already. Thanks for your advice :)

If you host your wordpress in good providers such as Godady or Hostgator ,you wont face these kind of issues.
We encountered the same problem after the 2.7.1 to 2.8.4 update, and after installing WP tuner plug-in we saw that Popularity Contest slows the site.

I am just setting up my first page with WordPress and it is crazy sow sometimes.I am running the latest version, and I would assume that i have all the latest plug-ins as I just got them yesterday, and still it is brutally slow.I also just got Google Gears and I didn’t see any difference.Pretty frustrating,for sure…
I could live with it if it was once and while, but obviously I am doing a lot of trial and error while trying to set it up, so I am constantly waiting for WordPress it seems…
