Life.. A choice you can live with

Leaving wordpress.com

I will start to write some articles going through the process of transferring My Life Thinking blog from the great wordpress.com and have some freedom on my private hosting, the way I did to lead my readers to the new blog, and what kind of wordpress plugins I am using to run it.

I will also talk about some things I did to the Template used by My Life Thinking, and maybe I will provide a link to download it as I will make some changes to the main template, and this could create a complete new template base on it.. who knows?

First of all, I will talk on this article about how I transferred my blog and database content in a very simple steps:

1- Register a new domain name.

2- Install wordpress.

3- Install theme.

4- Test some plugins.

5- Modify theme and plugins.

6- Submit new blog on social networks and web directories.

7- Import old database from wordpress.com

8- Linking old post to the new blog.

9- Deleting some old posts from old blog.

And then the last step is to continue bloging!

I really didn’t know if I did good with deleting of those posts from my old blog on wordpress.com, but I was thinking about a way to lead those visitors from it to my new blog, anyways! I already did it, but I need some opinions about if this is the right thing to do or not.

In the coming articles I will talk more about the simple steps I made to move from old blog to new own hosted one using wordpress.

  1. Hisham,
I’m very interested in transition. Two questions:
    - Whats the advantage of wordpress.com
    - What were the restrictions?

    John :

The advantage of wordpress.com that it’s very easy to manage, I mean you only have to get an account and start blogging, and it makes you blog through a great big organized community, and help you to spread with out having to do lots of work! and this was great.

The restrictions of wordpress.com for me was that you can not install plugins, and you have to wait untill they granted from the wordpress.com team, and of course you can not put your ads on the page..

    what else can I say?
