Life.. A choice you can live with

On my way back to America, In France to be exactly, I meet a girl at the airport, she also was waiting for the same flight and she asked me where I came from, I say Egypt going to America, and asked same to her, she say Lebanon.
She was telling me about her and her life, and asking me about mine, so we had a nice time talking, while we wait, when time came and we had to aboard , she told me, can I tell u something? I say sure. what is it?
she say , if I were you i will take off the Hijab, I say why? she was not using it, she explain to me why she don’t use etc… she told me, if u take off the Hijab everything is gonna be easy for u , anyways , nobody in your family will see that you don’t use Hijab.
i say its ok , I have experience on this matter , is not my first time traveling wearing Hijab, she say ok , as you wish, I just want you don’t have troubles and waste time, I say ok thanks you.
so she was with me, and she say , wait until everybody go inside I will show you something I want you to see, I say ok no problem, anyway for me is the same, first or last on the line, so they were like 200 people a boarding or something , everybody was just passing while we wait.
I saw all this people a boarding just showing their passport , then we stand up on go in line to do the same.
I really was surprised lol she was Muslim also , and maybe lots of them too , but I was the only one I was wearing Hijab :) so immediately I showed up, a lady say to me, can I check your bags? I say sure definitely , off course lol.. So she put me aside and checked my bags.
she didn’t find anything wrong , so she say thanks , have a great flight. I say you are very welcome!
inside , she told me see , I told you that Hijab will give you problems , so I say is ok, she say same will happen in America when we arrive!
yeah I know, so.. I was thinking same will happen in America, so I have to be ready for this again, but once we were in immigration ,the officer took my passport, checked ,and then say …
have a great one . means have a great time. I replayed to him , same to you Sr.
I was surprised coz they didn’t say anything to me or check my bags.
I realize is not about Hijab. or religion ,because is not my first time that I enter to America wearing Hijab, they already know, what I’m doing at Egypt ,or why I’m traveling to Egypt!!
What I really want to say about this. is, if you are an honest person and nothing to hide, you can wear your Hijab or be Muslim or whatever religion you are. People will treat you the way you look by looking at your face first. Your face will show yourself.
and the way you act ,not for what you are wearing, to be honest this girl from Lebanon , make me think about it , but I have confidence on myself, I have nothing to hide, and whatever ,whoever ask about why this or that , I have a correct answer. the truth, I’m Muslim, What to do? :)

We all should be proud being Muslim..no one should hide his religion.

masha Allah for this post. I travel frequently to the US from the Caribbean, have since I was young, and we always wore hijab. Sometimes, especially right after 9/11 and up to now, the security will always “randomly” select you for search etc, but I don’t have anything to hide, so there’s never a problem. I know lots of people who choose to do the same thing that woman was advising you out of fear, but there’s no real reason. What about the Americans who wear the hijab? I admit that there are the occasional persons who are a bit overly aggressive, and some who are simply clueless when they see you with hijab wondering what they should do, but the airport personnel don’t want to create a problem by getting passengers agitated, so politeness works :-)

You are exactly right. I’m a blond American woman and I’ve been pulled aside, had my bags searched, had them go over me with the metal detector, and rub my purse with the little swabs that are supposed to detect explosives. Big deal – mostly, it’s just random. You have to be yourself, be honest, be confident – if you have nothing to hide, then so what? It’s all a blasted inconvenience, but it isn’t personal or religious. If you change your habits or your dress, isn’t that more likely to be viewed as the behavior of someone with something to hide? I’m glad you felt comfortable just being true to yourself.

It is a shame that the girl told you to take off your Hijab. This is part of your religion, and you should not listen to her!
