You are exactly right. I’m a blond American woman and I’ve been pulled aside, had my bags searched, had them go over me with the metal detector, and rub my purse with the little swabs that are supposed to detect explosives. Big deal – mostly, it’s just random. You have to be yourself, be honest, be confident – if you have nothing to hide, then so what? It’s all a blasted inconvenience, but it isn’t personal or religious. If you change your habits or your dress, isn’t that more likely to be viewed as the behavior of someone with something to hide? I’m glad you felt comfortable just being true to yourself.
